4. culture of filipinos that is distinct or different to foriegners

Answer:

Pagmamano

A scene that may seem rather peculiar to the foreign traveller is when Filipino children come up to their parents or grandparents upon arriving home or seeing them, and instead of greeting them with a hug or a kiss, they take the elder’s hand and places the back of it to their forehead.

‘Filipino Time’

While many Filipinos have recognised this unfavourable stereotype and are making attempts to change it, the country is still quite known for running on what is known as ‘Filipino time’, which is essentially a euphemism for saying that Filipinos are always late.

Inability to say ‘no’

A Filipino quirk that many a time frustrates foreigners as much as it confuses them is when locals refuse to give an outright decline or negation. Filipinos, in general, don’t like confrontations, and many avoid saying ‘no’ at all costs. Instead, they’ll give the Tagalog equivalent to a ‘maybe’, an ‘alright, we’ll see’, or an ‘I’ll try.’

14. explain the importance of having distinct language and culture of a certain state??

Explanation:

Written and spoken words are an art form, a way for values and traditions to be passed down for generations.

When a language is lost, part of that culture is lost. By the same measure, when language is preserved, the traditions and customs continue living in the hearts and minds of those who understand it.

Also, It is important to have an official language so that the people who are bound together by this country have a common language. Our public facilities should be in the language that is the primary language of the country so that the most amount of people can understand it. We have to be able to interact.

27. What distinctive Filipino culture was displayed in How My Brother Leon Brought Home A Wife? What distinctive Filipino culture was displayed in Sapay Koma?

Answer:

At first, I don’t really understand the story, but as the story goes on, I became more interested with it. I thought Labang was a person, but he was a bull. I also imagined that Maria is a beautiful woman. Baldo is the younger brother of Leon and he was taken away by the beauty of Maria. On their way home, Maria observed that provinces are very different from the cities. It is said that the air in the province is clean, free of dust and smoke, while in cities, lots of houses, cars and noise can be observed. It was said that Maria was very afraid to meet Leon’s father because he may not like her for his son. If I were in her place, I would also feel the same way because his life is different with mine. Back to the story, Baldo didn’t bother to answer Leon’s question about why they have to pass the unusual route, because it was said that they should’ve passed through the camino real which is the main road, but they passed by the Waig or the stream. Why do you think Baldo chose to pass by the Waig than the camino real? For me, he wants to show Maria how beautiful it is to live in a province. Do you know why Maria calls Leon, Noel? Because it is his city name. When they reached the house of Leon, his father didn’t welcome them, but Baldo and his father had a little conversation about their way home. As Maria and Leon’s father talked to each other, they became comfortable and I think his father accepted Maria as his daughter-in-law.

This story for me is a very interesting one. Here in our world, it is very rare to hear that a city girl can fall in love with a provinciano.

According to my research, Leon’s father accepted Maria and it is a good thing even if her life is different from theirs.

One thing is for sure, after reading this, I realized that loving someone is not full of expectations, you really have to accept the person you love especially when it comes to his own life, and you do not accept the person because of his riches, but you accept him because he shows how he loves you for who you are in whatever way he thinks that is good.

STRENGTHS:

· 1. The story is interesting.

· 2. It shows how Manuel Arguilla loves his province.

· 3. The author wants us to know that it is possible for a city girl and a provinciano to fell in love with each other.

· 4. While reading this, you should use your imagination for clearer understanding.

· 5. The best part for me in this story is that Maria accepted Leon for who he is, for what life he can give to her and especially he loves him even if he is just a provinciano.

WEAKNESSES:

· 1. The use of some words are hard to understand.

· 2. I don’t understand the connection of the song ‘Sky Sown with Stars’ to the story.

· 3.The story gave me the thought of ‘more information’ because I just understood the story at the last part.

· 4. I don’t understand why Baldo should water Labang and why Maria, Aurelia and Leon’s mother were crying.

· 5. It leaves me the idea of wanting more.
